Welcome to A Life Examined

What is the examined life? A life worth living! As I look at the road ahead, I take all the baggage from the past and use it as experience - the pain and the passion, the sorrow and the joy - allowing it to carve wisdom into my mind and hope into my spirit.
There is no experience that can't be useful to me at some point in my life. There is no lesson learned that cannot make a contribution to the future.
A tiny drop of water is a part of the ocean. A tiny speck in the night sky is a ginormous star in the distance. It all depends on perspective.
So, this examined life is to offer reflections in the hope of discussing things which are of value to myself and to others.
Love, Sarah

Gotta be You

I had a dream last night -- actually in the early morning before I awoke for the day. In the dream, I was in a recording studio and was asked to view a series of videos and given the opportunity to create a RAP for the demo of my choice. It took me a long while and I was about to give up. The styles of the pieces were designed by and for youth. The producer in the studio, a young woman I (apparently) knew personally, had grace though, and gave me all the time I needed. Twice I started. The starts must have been poor as both times she stopped me. Instead of feeling discouraged by the interruption, I realised she knew I was going in the wrong direction and wanted me to do my best. So I considered for a time, dwelt on the last of the series of videos I'll call "Marilyn" (although it was about look-a-likes of Marilyn Munro and Shelley Winters, two stars of the 1950's-60's who were roommates before they each found fame). I have read quite a lot about the ill-fated Marilyn, sex goddess and icon who died prematurely and very much alone by drug overdose at thirty-six.
I heard the RAP lyrics in my head and the beat, and upon waking did my best to repeat and write it as follows....
                                                            "Gotta be You"
I've been around
One thing I know
You just gotta be you
Gotta be you.

You can fly high
You can dance slow
Just gotta be you
Gotta be you.

You can shout loud
You can sing low
Just gotta be you
Gotta be you

You can hope big
You can say no
You just gotta be you
Gotta be you.

Lot's of crazy things go round
Lot's of things bring you down
Gotta be you.  Gotta be you.

There's been times I've tried so hard
Voice inside kept me from pride:
Just gotta be you.  Gotta be you.

When I knew nowhere to hide --
"Gotta be you.  Gotta be you."

You can fly high
You can dance slow
Just gotta be you
Gotta be you.

You can shout loud
you can sing low
Just gotta be you
Gotta be you.

Genuine. Honestly.
Be yourself: Astonishing.
Gotta be --
Truthfully
Free to be ---
Lovingly
I tell you:
Gotta be -- sure to see --
Gotta be ---
You.
