My husband and my son - neither of them likes surprises very much. I on the other hand, love to be surprised. Life has many surprises- twists and turns, unexpected changes. Whether we deem these events or changes as positive or we see them as negative depends on our perspective.
You' ve seen classic double-image drawings? If you look at these images you can see the positive or the negative or both - literally as though we are looking at the negative of a photo or at the printed version, the positive image. Examples: the two lovers' faces or the vase; the poor old lady or the young woman with the flamboyant hat; the rabbit or the duck. Well I have a photograph that offers two 'views: do you see the flower or the dog's face? Or can you see them both?
The point is that anyunexected experiences we face can be for our benefit or an annoyance - it all depends on the way you choose to look at it. Some folks will not like dogs, others won't life flowers. I happen to like them both.
But what we see and how we deal with what we see is up to us. Make it pleasant or make it miserable. I't up to us.
I'm an expert on ME. Sometimes that means I have a really useful insight for others - women especially - who are creative thinkers, open to their own journey but preferring to read the thoughts of another. I've been highly influenced by: 1. Dr M Scott Peck's "The Road Less Traveled", 2. acting upon my defining moment and 3. believing in the Bible as the prophetic Word of God, and also known as Jesus. I post once a week, on Thursdays.
Welcome to A Life Examined
What is the examined life? A life worth living! As I look at the road ahead, I take all the baggage from the past and use it as experience - the pain and the passion, the sorrow and the joy - allowing it to carve wisdom into my mind and hope into my spirit.
There is no experience that can't be useful to me at some point in my life. There is no lesson learned that cannot make a contribution to the future.
A tiny drop of water is a part of the ocean. A tiny speck in the night sky is a ginormous star in the distance. It all depends on perspective.
So, this examined life is to offer reflections in the hope of discussing things which are of value to myself and to others.
Love, Sarah
